DPad spent some time cruising the anime convention circuit and paid a visit to Connecticon and Otakon these past two weeks.
Connecticon was a good time and we went and filmed the Battle of the Rock Bands competition. You can see the footage over at our video page and while you are there you might notice a strange player that doesn’t belong to YouTube. We here at DPad have decided to start posting our game related videos on the Funny Or Die network over at Pwn Or Die. It is a great up and coming video site, the quality of the videos are excellent, and we are glad to be a part of it.
Over at Otakon we had our first and only screening of The Game Center and it opened with great fanfare. We also decided to do a repeat of the song and dance we did at Anime Boston and participated in the anime music video contest, and this time we qualified! We made Kaneda’s Big Adventure for the trailer/parody category but due to “legal issues” the entire category was taken off the program from Saturday on. To make sure everyone gets the chance to see it we put it up on YouTube and hope everyone enjoys it.
We have an exclusive new video series coming to Pwn Or Die and it will be up within the week so stay tuned!

It’s been a busy weekend, so let me start from the top.
Last Thursday there was a posting on Kotaku about the New York Asian Film Festival. During the festival there are free screenings of Retro Game Master, subtitled versions of Game Center CX. Seeing as one of the goals of our version of the show was to help get the Japanese show over to America, I felt compelled, no required to attend.
The screenings were superb, granted the episodes consisted only of the game challenge and not the interviews or on location segments, it is about as close as we will get in America. Many business cards and DVDs were given out to a group of awesome people in addition to meals of sushi, curry, and dumplings.
Then yesterday on Siliconera they announce that English subtitled DVDs are, well finished. An American distributor just needs to be found for them. This is fantastic news for the gaming public but at the same time this makes The Game Center dead in the water. We made an American version with the intent to help test the waters and pave the way for the original to come to America and it may be for the best that it was never released to the public. I did already have plans in the working for a public screening and those may very well go through but after that, project is done. Game over man, game over.
So stay tuned because we may have some new projects on the way.

Well, The Game Center has actually been finished for a few weeks now but only today are we ready to make the announcement. So after watching all the trailers you must be asking, what is this show about anyway?

The Game Center is an attempt at an American version of the Japanese show Game Center CX. If you don’t already know about the show Wikipedia has a great page but for those too lazy to click, the show is based around comedian Shinya Arino as he attempts to beat a classic video game in a day or so every week. The show also features segments dedicated to video games such as field trips to notable gaming venues in Japan or retrospectives on other classic games.
After sitting down and watching episodes many months ago we felt someone should try and get this show on air in America. In one episode Arino makes reference to “America CX” and from that point on we knew this was the project for us.
So you want to see the pilot? Well that is where things get a little difficult. Currently the pilot is on a DVD, waiting patiently on a desk somewhere in California where it will be viewed by executives from a major cable network within the next few weeks. Until then the pilot will unfortunately be listed for private viewing only. However, if you are a member of the gaming media and want to arrange a private viewing/interview then please e-mail us and help bring a great concept to the American airwaves!
The show is coming along very nicely. Within the next two weeks everything should be done and the part one of the pilot episode should be complete. Until then, another teaser to make me feel like I am actually getting stuff done.
First thing first, the third teaser for The Game Center is now up. With any luck the 8 minute pilot should be up by the end of the month!
In the next few weeks we should also have a new show announcement coming from our webmaster Sage. It’s something WoW related and we all know the world needs more Warcraft [/sarcasm].
Also DPad will be making an appearance at Anime Boston 2008 next week. For shits and giggles we decided to do an entry for the Anime Music Video contest, it didn’t make it to the finals but from what we understand it will still get a screening. I think this may become a yearly tradition for us.
More to come soon!
Next one, coming up!
Nuff said, check it out. More of these clips to come.
Yesterday DPad officially had it’s first in-house film date, the pilot for The Game Center. With over ten and a half hours logged it was not an easy task in the least. For a whole day our staff played (CLASSIFIED BY THE VGRCHPCA) to make this show come together. I can’t remember the last time I played a game with my friends for a whole day, do you? If you haven’t for a while I would highly recommend it, break out the Mountain Dew and get to it.
We should have some teaser videos up by the end of the week and also some progress on the Cockbites project as well. In the meantime, pictures.

The basics have been setup for the DPad Productions site!
More to be seen in the next few days as we setup the site.
